AN INVITATION TO AJA MEMBERS & CANDIDATES
Summer School 2017 takes place during a year of celebrations for AJA’s 40th birthday.
Drawing on themes from Gerhard Adler’s book ‘Dynamics of the Self,’ we will allow our memories, dreams and reflections of the beginning of our Association to surface! We hope it will be a joyful remembering and also enable us to discover threads of continuity. Emphasis will also be on ‘remembering the future’ and considering what we may need to forget in order to move forward!
As well as looking at our history, we will focus on memory and memories including of course their important place in a clinical setting. Edinger in his commentary on The Mysterium Lectures brings up the whole question of the role of memory in the process of individuation. He takes us back to antiquity where Mnemosyne, Memory, was a goddess and the mother of Muses…..leading us to the realization that memory is a function of the Self. Jules Cashford will introduce us to the goddess Mnemosyne and expand on the link between Memory and Imagination. Other contributors will include Antonia Boll, Julienne McLean, Clare Julien, Penny Culliford, Arthur Niesser, Dale Mathers, Martin Stone, Julia Waterfield and Liz Grant & others to be confirmed.
As at other Summer Schools, each day will begin with a Social Dreaming Matrix taking place in the ancient Solar room in Charney Manor. However this year we have replaced the Saturday evening film with a time of story-telling – an opportunity to listen to stories of beginnings of AJA and later developments. This will be ably animated by Stephen Garratt, Jack Bierschenk and Chris Williams. Hopefully we will be outside under the trees, with lanterns, plenty of wine and nibbles!
Programme details will be available after 1st May and will be sent to all participants together with travel directions. The number of places at Charney Manor is limited so please register as soon as possible to ensure a place. And don’t forget those who register and pay before 1st May will be entitled to an early bird discount.
We look forward to seeing you at Summer School,
Liz, Antonia, Julia, Julienne and Stephen.
