Are you a psychotherapist, psychologist or counsellor?
Have Jung’s writings piqued your interest and moved you?
Are you looking for an opportunity to learn how they relate to your own work?

This is the first of a short series of 3 x stand-alone, online seminars, covering various thematic issues pertaining to Jungian Analysis, open to all practitioners regardless of theoretical stance.

The paper: Working with an analyst from another culture can be seen as an unconscious choice by a patient. Encounters between an analyst and patient from different cultures bring up the whole history of cultural complexes and traumas. The unconscious impact of this history and different mother tongues finds expression in a specific dynamic in transference and in activation of the Wounded Healer archetype. Five phases of this dynamic will be considered and illustrated with reference to clinical material. The peculiarities of speaking a second language will be discussed with special attention to transference and countertransference.

Presented by: Julia Ovchinnikova, a Jungian analyst and a supervisor.  Julia has a Ph.D. in psychology. Her main area of research is personality crisis, with a particular interest in identity and midlife crises, multicultural therapy and symbolic function. She works in private practice in London, supervises and teaches nationally and internationally, including seminars at AJA and the SAP (London), the Master’s Programme “Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy” at HSE University (Moscow), and supervisions at The Singapore University of Social Sciences (Singapore). Julia also runs a project “Psychology of Emigration” whose aim is to help people who have relocated to a new culture.
