Members who have retired from clinical work with individuals but wish to continue to supervise and take part in candidates review panels are required to maintain non-clinical membership.
Any member needing to take a break from clinical work during their ongoing membership should look at the information below on non-practising members.
Non-clinical membership
This category is suitable for AJA members who, having retired from clinical practice, wish to continue to supervise, teach and take part in candidates review panels. Ideally, your continued contribution needs identified with the chair of the training committee in the year prior to your retirement.
Requirements:
- Continued registration with BPC and/or UKCP. Both organisations have reduced fee categories for registrants who have ended clinical work but wish to pursue only supervisory and teaching work (see note 1)
- Continued payment of PLI (see note 2)
- CPD – AJA recommends that you maintain awareness of current debates and developments within the analytic profession. Your annual CPD form will need to be returned to AJA, but there is no requirement for this to be a detailed return under all the categories. We ask that you simply write a short reflective statement showing how you have fulfilled this recommendation. You will need to fulfil any annual BPC or UKCP requirements for CPD in this category. You might also wish to retain membership of your CPD group. (see note 3)
AJA commitment
All benefits of full membership, including submission to IAAP on the AJA listing should the member wish to continue paying for IAAP registration. (see note 4)
AJA will not necessarily require you to conform with 5 year re-accreditations, although you will need to check the requirements of UKCP (which is conditional on when you last had one) and BPC.
Annual membership fee
Currently one third of the current full membership fee.
Notes:
- In January 2024 the categories of membership and fees:
- BPC Registrant (teaching only) £132; Registrant (Supervisory only) £132; Deferred Registrant £132. If you wish to supervise and take part in training reviews this would be a combined fee of £264.
- The Deferred category is only open to a member who is practising in person outside the UK – this does not include UK based online work with overseas students/supervisees.
- UKCP Non-clinical membership £230 (for members who are offering supervision or teaching but are no longer engaged in clinical practice).
- Members are advised to check that their insurance covers them for work online and with people outside the UK.
- Please check requirements for BPC/UKCP CPD and 5-year re-accreditations in your chosen category.
- IAAP registration costs nothing if you are over 75 years. Until then, there are no reductions.
