Overview

In these seminars we will be discussing two papers, written from contrasting perspectives, exploring analytic work with people experiencing gender distress/dysphoria. The aim is less to arrive at a ‘correct position’ than to foster critical thinking about this often polarizing subject. With this in mind, I would request that people listen respectfully to other people’s views, even if they differ radically from their own.

The recent Cass review highlighted the importance of working holistically with people suffering from gender dysphoria and recommended psychological therapy as the first port of call. To facilitate this, these seminars aim to foster more effective analytic work with these clients. Participants are invited to bring their own clinical material (where relevant) as well as discuss the clinical material in the two papers and the more theoretical question of how best to conceptualize gender dysphoria analytically.
